Mount Gongga - Where the Wind Stops to Rest

The word "Gong" in Tibetan means permanent snow cover, and "ga" means white, so Gangga means white snow cover. Mount Gongga is located in the Miya Raogang area, a traditional Tibetan Buddhist administrative division. Mount Gongga is the highest peak of Sichuan Province, at an elevation of 7,556 meters. Local people also call it Miya Gongga. The high and steep mountain is covered forever with thawless snow.
This "Sunshine over the Golden Mountain" is the most famous scenic view in the Gongga area. A streak of blood-red light pierced the dark clouds, revealing over 50 steep snow-capped summits, shining, dazzling and thrusting into the clouds like golden swards. On the other side of the valley were pinewoods, dark green in the sunshine, like green flower garlands above the mountain fields girdling the immeasurably high golden snow-capped summits.
At this tranquil time and place, the mountains and the sky, the sun and the clouds were showing their earliest beauty and brilliance of the day.
The air was quiet and peaceful. Apart from the clicking of camera shutters, there was not another sound. The cold wind that had been blowing when we came out was gone. I felt as if I was standing at the same time and spot as the India M.S Kholi who scaled Mount Qomolangma in 1965 and sighed from the bottom of my heart. At this moment, it seemed like even the wind had stopped to rest.
