A passport is an official travel document issued to citizens of a country by the State. It allows the bearer to travel from and return to the country of origin and is required to enter a foreign state. It is used to verify the identity and nationality of individuals. If a country requires travelers to have passports, then each individual traveler, of any age, must have their own passport.

What to do if you lost your passport?

1) If the passport is lost in China, you need to ask your guide for help and report to the city Public Security Bureau (PSB) immediately. The PSB will then issue a certificate of lost passport. With the certificate, you will need to apply for a new passport in person to the nearest embassy or consulate of your own country, where you usually will be required to provide some other materials like passport photos, lost passport application, etc. With the new passport issued, you need to go to the PSB to get a new Visa, so you can go on your trip or exit China. Please be advised that the relevant departments are usually closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Chinese Holidays.

2) If the passport is lost abroad, you should rapidly report the case to the local public security organs and complete the detailed and essential registration procedure, simultaneously you should go to your countries nearest embassy or consulate as soon as possible to complete the registration procedure of the loss report, and then apply for a passport reissue.
