Special point by this route:
1. Include all the important sightseeing of the silk route tour (China Part) of Dunhuang, Turpan, and Kashgar.
2. Camel ride and overnight in tent behind the mountain of Echoing-Sand Mountain
3. Visit the Tuyugou Great Canyon near Turpan, this is one of the most mystical place but not familiar to tourists.
Day 1/-Dunhuang (no meal)
You can fly from Beijing or Xi'an to Dunhuang, or take train K591(10:00-09:30+1) from Xi'an to Dunhuang.
Arrive in Dunhuang, the center of trade between China and its western neighbors in ancient time. Transfer to a hotel to leave your luggage, as you will overnight in a tent this night. Buy some food in the supermarket (own cost for the food).
Take sightseeing of Crescent Lake, and Echoing-Sand Mountain. At the foot of the mountain you can ride a camel for about 2 hours. Stay overnight in the tent. (Sleeping bag will be prepared by the clients themselves, tent will be offered from the travel agency.) ( no meal)
Day 2/Dunhuang-Turpan overnight train
Pay a visit to Mogao Grottoes. Take an overnight train to Turpan with Soft Sleeper (first class in China, 4 persons sharing one cabin). (B,L,D)
Day 3/Turpan
Arrive in Turpan in the morning, pick up from the railway station. Visit the Astana Tombs, the Ancient City Sites of Gaochang, Tuyugou Great Canyon, Thousand Buddha Caves, and Flame Mountain. (B,L)
Day 4/Turpan
After breakfast, visit the Karez Irrigation System. Then, visit the Ancient City of Jiaohe, the largest and best-preserved ancient city built from compressed earth anywhere in the world. (B,L)
Day 5/Turpan-Kashgar train
Visit the Emin Minaret, the largest ancient Islamic tower in Xinjiang; Then, pay a visit the Grape Valley. Take the train K9786 (15:01-12:45+1 ) to Kashgar. Stay overnight on the train with soft sleeper, 4 person cabin. (B,L)
The train for ST-025 , take the train 5806 (00:34-13:58 ) from Turpan to Kuche is with the end station of Aksu, not Kashgar. We need use K9786 by this route.
Day 6/Kashgar
Arrive in Kashgar at 12:45, transfer to the hotel. In Kashgar, pay a visit to Id Kah Mosque, Abakh Khoja Tomb, and Kashgar old city and pottery workshop of the local handicraftsman. If one would like to see a place where time has stood still it is Kashgar (Kashi). Walking through the narrow lanes of this old town evokes a scene from the Arabian Nights. Kashgar has remained sheltered from outside influences with locals who are very friendly. Amongst the most popular professions are coppersmiths, carpenters, jewelers and cobblers, all using tools of bygone days. (L)
Day 7/Kashgar
Sunday Market in Kashgar, whole day by yourself. (no guide, no van) (B)
One of the most popular events in the town is the weekly Sunday Bazaar that draws a variety of ethnic groups like the Uyghur, Tajik, Kyrgyz and Kazakh to the streets of Kashgar. They come on foot, bike, horseback, modern motorcycles and donkey carts, all with the hope of selling merchandise ranging form scissors to camels. Here we enjoy mingling with the locals and learn to sharpen our bargaining skills.
Day 8/Kashgar-
Take flight to Urmuqi or next station. (B)
