(YHT-001) Yunnan Horticulture Tour (11 Days) : Kunming-Stone Forest-Xishuangbanna-Dali-Lijiang-Kunming

A tour for keen gardeners and lovers of flora!
Traveling in Yunnan is for experienced lovers of ethnic culture with a genuine interested in nature. From the tropical South to the high alpine North: no other Chinese province offers more cultural and ecological diversity. Biodiversity is rich in endemic species and so are the farmers' fields: full of agriculturally rare species and crop varieties. Yunnan is world-famous for its abundance of camellia, orchid, azalea and Primula malacoide


Day 1/ Arrive in Kunming
Arrive in Kunming, pick up from the airport. Visit Cui Lake Park. Then, walk around the Flower and Bird Market. (D)

Day 2/Kunming-Shilin (Stone Forest)-Kunming 
In the morning, visit Dounan Flower Market, one of the biggest flowers' trade markets all over the Asia. Here, you will have the chance to see all sorts of Chinese flowers and even some flowers which couldn't be planted in China before. Then, drive to visit the Stone Forest (Shilin) in Lunan Yi Nationality, 120km from Kunming. Drive to Kunming for overnight. (B,L,D) 

Day 3/Kunming-Jinghong 
Visit Southwest Forestry University and have a discussion and communication with the experts on Garden Plant and Ornamental Horticulture. Also have a chance to visit host plant nursery. Then, pay a visit to Kunming Botanical Garden, where have introduced precious flowers, traditional medicinal herbs, important trees and endangered plants of the province. Also they have cultivated many plants for domestication and the protection of their migration. The gardens have collected some 4,000 species of plants and established 10 special plant gardens and experimental districts. Take an evening flight to Jinghong. Transfer to the hotel on arrival. Day 4/Jinghong 
After breakfast, Wild Elephant Valley (one-way cableway). To Dai People, the elephant is the symbol of good luck, might and longevity. The passengers' cableway over the forest (2,063 meters) sends tourists to the main scenic spot in which the wild elephants live, enjoying the beauty of the rain forest scenery. Then, walk out the valley along the forest paths, touring fantastic virgin forests, people could see wild elephant wondering around the valley by chance. Then, visit Tropical Botanical Garden, included the Rain Forests of Xishuangbanna and the Ethical Plant Culture Museum, the Ethical Wild Vegetable Zone, the Traditional Drinking Plants Zone, the National Medicinal Plants Quarter and Religious Plant Quarter etc. (B,L,D)

Day 5/Jinghong
In the morning, drive along Lancangjiang River south of Jinghong to Ganlanba (Olive Basin), this area of rain forest and tall bamboos acquired its name from its shape and verdant greenery. You will also visit Ganlanba Market. Then, head for Menglun Tropical Botanical Garden, the largest tropical botanical garden in China established in 1959. The garden boasts more than 4000 species of tropical plants covering an area of 900 hectares, quite a few of which are rare elsewhere, forming a colorful botanical landscape. (B,L,D) 

Day 6/Jinghong-Dali
Take a morning flight to Dali. Pick up from the airport. Then, drive to Cangshan Mountain parking lot, and take cable car up to Zhonghe Temple and start 3-4 hours trekking along the Jade Belt Path. Besides Three Pagodas and Dali Ancient Town in distance, you will also see many alpine plants, waterfall on the way. Take Cable Car from Gantong Temple down after trekking. Pay a visit to the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Monastery, the symbol of Dali. Walk around the Dali Ancient Town. (B,L,D)

Day 7/Dali 
Visit Zhang's Garden, located 8 kilometers to the west of the county. This village has currently 237 households and over 90 percent still bear a common family name of Zhang. With four gates at the directions of east, north, west and south, the village was self-sufficient. A dozen of old residences still survive the Cultural Revolution in the 1970's and fine works of wood carving and stone carving can be found all over the village. In the afternoon, transfer to Dali Gardening Workstation, and visit the camellia and orchid planting nursery. (B,L,D)

Day 8/Dali-Lijiang 
Transfer to Lijiang, en route stop at Xizhou Village for the morning market. Proceed to Lijiang, and visit Lijiang Old Town, Black Dragon Pool where is a wonderful place caters to the habitude of the Naxi who loves the nature very much. The entire park is green with grass and shaded by swaying willow trees. Here provides a haven for bird and water-life, with spectacular plants. Visit Dongba Museum, whose infrastructure is archaized Naxi modest Siheyuan (Courtyard House). It is built rationally according to the site topography and landforms, forming the ancient architectural complex with the colonial courtyard as the major building area. (B,L,D)

Day 9/Lijiang 
Take a cable car to visit Yak Meadow situated at the middle of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, at an altitude of 3,800 meters. The beautiful natural scenery there is an important part of the mountain, and you will not only see many yaks on the plateau, but also horses and donkeys. Then, visit the Suhe Tea and Horse Old Town where is a well-preserved example of a town along the ancient tea and horse route, Baisha Murals in Baisha Naxi village. (B,L,D)

Day10/Lijiang-Kunming 
Take a morning flight back to Kunming. Pick up from the airport, then, visit Kunming World Horticulture Expo Garden: In the garden you can find 5 big exhibition halls (China Hall, the Man and Nature Hall, the Green House, the Science and Technology Hall, and the International Hall), 6 theme gardens (the Tree Garden, the Tea Garden, the Bonsai Garden, the Medicinal Herb Garden, the Bamboo Garden, and the Vegetable and Fruit Garden), 3 outdoor showplaces (the International Outdoor Exhibition Area, the Domestic Outdoor Exhibition Area, and the Exhibition Area for Enterprises), and 2 big squares (Century Plaza, and the Performance Plaza). Then, visit Golden Temple, a Taoist Temple. In front of the staircase of the temple, a 600-year-old camellia is standing with wide branches, which signals the approach of spring every February by giving hundreds of exquisite blossoms. The hillside abounds with pine trees, evergreens, hardy cypresses, and a multitude of plants. (B,L,D)

Day11/Depart from Kunming 
Transfer to the airport and prepare for the departure flight. TOUR ENDS! (B)
