Jinghong brief
Jinghong, located in the south of Yunnan Province, is the capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture where concentrates to protect the tropical rainforest. Jonghong keeps a large area of tropical rainforest, enjoying the fame of "Green Treasury" and "Gene Pool of Species". The main scenic spots in and around Jinghong worthwhile to visit are included the Manfeilong Pagoda, Octagonal Pavilion, Tropical Plant Research Institute, Dai Ethnic Garden and Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park.

Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park: Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park is a large comprehensive eco-tourism scenic spots in Xishuangbanna area. The park occupies 18.8 square kilometers, and has developed 10 scenery areas and 50 scenes including the tropical rainforest ravine, peacock reproduction base, wild animal performance, and etc. in the park, visitors can enjoy both the unique primal forest scenery and the colorful ethnic folklore of Yunnan.
Tropical Plant Research Institute: Tropical Plant Research Institute is near Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park, combing research, education and preservation of animal species into one. The institute plants over 1,000 plants with economical or medicinal value, divided into tropical fruit trees garden, aquatic plants garden, palm trees garden, banyan trees garden, medicinal plants zone, bamboo plants zone, aromatic plants zone and endangered plants species protection zone.
Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion: Octagonal Pavilion, located on the Jingzhen Mountain, 80km from Jinghong, is well-known for its special construction craftsmanship of Dai Minority. This pavilion was built in 1701, and consists of a platform, a body and a top. Its total height is 15.4 meters, with a 2 meter-tall and 8.6 meter-wide platform and a 5 meter-high body. A copper sculpture of Sakyamuni is enshrined inside.
Wild Elephant Valley: Wild Elephant Valley, located 50km from Jinghong, is the only place in Xihuangbanna where the visitors can see the elephants. In the main scenic spot, tourists could walk on the overhead corridor and enjoy the scene of wild elephants bathing, playing water and seeking for food. Besides the elephants, visitors can also find wild buffalo, green peacocks, rhesus monkeys and other rare animals.
Manfeilong Pagoda: Manfeilong Pagoda, located on top of the mountain in Manfeilong Village, is a famous stupa group in Xishuangbanna. Due to the white stupa, some people also called it the White Pagoda. The pagoda actually consists of 9 stupas, with the primary staupa in the center while the other 8 smaller stuaps clustering to its base. In each stupa, there is a niche featuring a Buddhist statue and a Buddhist relief, and on top of the niche is a flying phoenix. At the gate of each stupa are two giant dragons engraved out of earth. Bells hung on the stupas give wonderful tinkles in the breezes.
Tropical Botanical Garden: Tropical Botanical Garden, located about 96 kilometers away from Jinghong, is the largest botanical garden in China and contains nearly ten thousand different species of tropical plants.

Recommended tour
By air: Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport, located 5km from the downtown of Jinghong, is the second largest airport in Yunnan Province. Flights to Kunming, Shanghai, Chengdu and other major cities in China run regularly. In addition, there is one weekly international flight to Bangkok.
By road: The city also has roads connecting to the near cities.
By boat: Ferry trips run along the Mekong River from Chiang Saen to Jinghong.

There are a large variety of souvenirs and specialties in Jinghong, included wood carvings, jade, Yunnan tea and coffer, as well as local Dai produced items, such as Dai embroideries.
Entertainment:
Besides the special scenery of tropical rainforest which Jinghong is showed, the guests will also experience the ethnic custom of Dai People. You could choose to visit Jinghong during the Water Splashing Festival. The three-to-four-day Water Splashing Festival is held during the New Year of Dai Calendar, usually falling in middle April of solar calendar.
